The Old Northwest Trading Company
Based in Southeastern Michigan, our name is derived from 18th century vernacular when the Michigan area was referred to as the Old Northwest. “Trading Company” was added to give the impression that this is more than simply another toy soldier company. Our future plans include a complete line of high quality scenic and diorama accessories, military prints (based on the original illustrations for our figures) and other related items.

The goal of ONTC is produce highly realistic, historically accurate figures and scenic pieces as well as offer a historical perspective for each product. Our figures are designed, sculpted and painted by the principles of ONTC and manufactured in Hong Kong.

Owned and operated by four military enthusiasts and fellow collectors with varied backgrounds we have come together, each of us offering different skills and experience needed to give you the best product possible.

Rick Berry
Rick is a collector’s collector. His love of toy soldiers goes back for years with his personal collection of figures numbering well over 10,000. His military collection rivals many museums and includes full original uniforms, personal items and effects of the common “grunt” from the American Civil War, American Indian Wars, World War I (French, German, US) World War II (German, US), Korea and Vietnam. In retail for the past 24 years he is owner of The Michigan Toy Soldier Company.
Doug Dearth
Doug was an Art Director at a prominent advertising agency in Atlanta until the Siren’s song of toy soldiers lured him away. He also is a collector of toy soldiers and militaria with his expertise in World War I longarms and pistols.
Ken Osen
Along with Richard Walker, Ken has been credited with starting the “matte revolution” at WBritains in the ’90s. Through his continued work with toy visionary Richard Conté and famed military painter Don Troiani he has garnered the title of Master Sculptor. His militaria collection contains pieces from every major American conflict from the French and Indian War on through World War II. He is a living historian of several periods including Napoleonic, War of 1812, American Civil War, World Wars I and II – he even has his Jump Wings allowing him to reenact an US Paratrooper of WWII.
Dave Youngquist
Dave is a painter of the first order. He has top honors from the Military Miniature Society of Illinois (the Chicago Show) and Miniature Figure Collectors of America (Valley Forge) to name a few. His style is never garish or over-stated. The subtle nuances in his facial tones is matched only by the accuracy of his uniform detail. Like all fine military painters, Dave uses original uniforms to duplicate color and texture, achieving an unparalleled level of realism. He is a militaria collector specializing in British Victorian, American Indian Wars, World War I and the Wehrmacht.
