ACW-013 $ TBD Dog Bob2 soldiers talking, at their feet the camp dog watches with his head cocked and an incredulous stare. Dogs have been with armies since antiquity the Romans had attack formations made entirely of dogs. The first official use of dogs for military purposes in the United States was during the Seminole Wars. Dogs were used in the American Civil War to deliver messages and guard stores but their chief employ were as mascots. Almost every regiment had at least one. For the 110th Ohio it was Dog Bob. An abandoned Bull Terrier, Bob would respond to any of the Ohioans willing to show him the least bit of attention. |
