| Im getting a book called A Rifleman Went To War by Herbert W. McBride for christmas and I was wondering if any of you guys read it. My teacher has it and ive read the first chapter and I found it quite interesting. Its about an American who joins the Canadian Army in 1915 to get into the war faster and while there, he became a sniper and a machine gunner. Prior to going to europe, he compeated in the Whimbleton Cup at camp perry and one.[Thats where they shoot targets at 1000 yards open sights and if you missed a certin amount of times you were disqualified. He also claimed to have killed a german at 1200 meters with the Canadian Bolt Action rifle. |

That rifle is the Ross issued to the Canadian expeditionary forces sent to France in WW I. It was found to be too delicate and prone to jamming for use in the trenches, so it was repaced with the Enfield for general issue. However, it was very accurate, on a par with or better than anyone else's, and was retained for use by snipers and designated marksmen. I hope this little tidbit helps _________________ - J. C.
